Welcome to my online gallery, where I capture moments of life in the city on paper or canvas. Enjoy the visual journey.

About the Artist:

Nicole Contois is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Toronto, where she currently resides. From a young age, she would carry a sketchpad and pencil, capturing scenes around her—from pigeons in the park to light towers in railway yards. These early experiences laid the foundation for her passion for urban sketching in adulthood. In 1996, she studied oil painting at the Vaughn Gillson studio. Later, in 2017, she completed the Cityscape Drawing and Painting course at George Brown College, working with acrylics, soft pastels, and watercolors. Since joining Urban Sketchers Toronto in 2015, Nicole has honed her skills in perspective, and sketching buildings and people using various techniques.

Artist’s statement:

To me, there is no such thing as ‘ordinary moments’, and I enjoy recording them on a sketchbook. Some objects may be challenging to draw, but I am always up for the challenge. I’m always open to learning different ways to draw or paint. My favourite medium is watercolour because of its brilliance and luminousity. I try to tell a story with each stroke of the brush and the viewer is invited to follow along. Cities are the most interesting subjects to render as there is always interesting things going on, such as festivals, sports and gatherings of many kinds. Pets and animals are also interesting as they have unique personalities to share with their people. I hope that the viewers enjoy the images I create as much as I make them.
