About the Artist:
Nicole Contois is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Toronto, where she currently resides. From a young age, she would carry a sketchpad and pencil, capturing scenes around her—from dogs in the park to light towers in railway yards. Her mother gave her a book on how to draw pet portraits and a drawing set, and her talent grew from there. She also learned how to paint in oils and watercolour, but her favourite medium is soft pastels.
Artist’s statement:
Pets are more than just companions to people, they are family members. I enjoy capturing their unique personalities on paper. My favourite medium is soft pastel because of its brilliance and versatility, but I also draw with pencils and paint with watercolour. They will be great keepsakes for years to come. I hope that the viewers enjoy the images I create as much as I make them.
